Officials have identified the man who was fatally shot Sunday night in south Minneapolis.

Lamont Agnew Jr., 33, suffered multiple gunshot wounds near Clinton Avenue S. and E. 29th Street and died in the first moments of Monday at HCMC, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Officers were called in after fire and county emergency workers first responded to reports of a someone on the ground and saw that Agnew was shot, police said in a statement.

No arrests have been announced, and police have not addressed a possible motive behind the shooting.

Court records show that Agnew has recently lived in Minneapolis.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara asked for those with information about the shooting to inform the department.

“In cases like this, we need someone to speak on behalf of the deceased,” O’Hara said in a statement. “Even the smallest detail could be crucial as our investigators work to determine what happened to this man.”

Including the triple killing from late Tuesday, there have been 14 homicides in the city so far this year, according to a Star Tribune database. That compares to 19 at this time last year in the city.
